Putting a gallery show together is hard because you
have to balance a local clientele with your own
impulses and desires as an artist. It’s been some
time since I have pondered my India photos, and
what they ultimately mean to me in my photographic
journey. There were so many high points and so much
to shoot that sometimes it could be bewildering. A
truly sublime experience. India is a rare treat for
any photographer. Alas, these photos aren’t really
marketable in my area, so they will be excluded
from my gallery show next month. As I begin to pare
down my selections for said gallery show, it became
very difficult and emotional to edit my selects for
a final theme, and thus exclude these photos to
advance my stature in the fine art community (read
marketing). Putting yourself out there is hard,
these travel photos might be a little too personal
at this time. Even though the ultimate goal of my
fine art photography is not really to make money,
it would be nice to be marketable, in some
respects, so a gallery owner doesn’t lose a fortune
showing me. My travel galleries: Wales, Greece,
India, and Hong Kong... they will have to wait
until the time and location is right, as they are
galleries for other photographers.
I do want to show a few of the shots to you though, and some of my thoughts, as I wade through the editing process and come up with final selections for my upcoming show, please forgive my indulgence.
Guru’s walk, golden temple
Boy pilgrim, golden temple
Hand of God, golden temple, Indian Holi festival
Meditation, golden temple
Untitled. This is my shout out to cartier-bresson, 3 generations of sikh's in one shot, and I got the look from the kid. I am between the donkey and the cart it is pulling to get this shot, indian holi. I might add that because I am white Caucasian about 6', I was a very visible target for water balloons during indian holi (spring festival with all the colors). Good thing the D2x is weather sealed!
Local customs. Like I previously said, you have to be brazen to get the best street candids on holiday. I not only get the shots, I do the drugs
.
This is my shout out to brassai.
Pak border. Guess who I am?
Serious photographer.
Thanks to Mani Babbar for the last photo. You can find him here.
