The tropical depression off the coast of Florida combined with the tidal effects of a new moon created waves no one has ever seen in palm beach county. I have lived here for over 20 years, and I can never remember the water ever reaching this far inland on a tidal surge. Talking with other residents in the area there is a feeling of unique anxiety, as a result of global warming, we have literally lost 50 feet of beach overnight. With huge chunks of shoreline being displaced, one surfer was gazing down at a newly formed berm of sand. The shore was shifting minute to minute. Some turtle nests made it, some didn’t.

I try and get up a few times a month to go down to the beach at sunrise. Here on the East coast of Florida, it’s definitely the best part of the day, and it’s the only time of the day you get to see the sun on the Atlantic Ocean. I like to go when there are clouds about, because usually sunrises and sunsets are pretty boring without some structure in the sky. This is taken with the nikkor 10.5 fisheye, one of my favorite lenses.

I was down on delray beach this evening taking a walk and was lucky with my timing. If you look clearly, you can see the double bow on top, and the reflection in the sand. No photoshop, straight out of the camera. This is part of a series I am working on of negative pictures, the opposite of what I am used to taking. Although I have experimented with this stuff before, this time, its war.

Scam

Just a small gallery of the weekend. I saw a lot of trashed people out on the ave.

Sometimes I wonder if people ever think about how ripe they are for a scam when they are out drinking? In the photos you might notice a certain girl with a bridal veil... this girl and her cohorts (about 5 or 6 other girls) were dressed for a bachelorette function, but something was odd, namely, the supposed "bachelorette" was dancing extremely suggestively with at least 5 random guys, on the podium in the middle of delux! I thought, "geez, this girl is really taking her last night of being single a little too far". So I went in with the camera and started snapping just to see how far this girl was going to go before she took her vows. As it turns out, the photos quickly scared her and she immediately inquired who I was shooting for. 'Who are the pictures for?', 'Your husband', I replied. She then went on the defensive and told me that she wasn't getting married at all, and her and her German friends went to bars in the USA like this because they could pass around a bucket, and fill it with cash by asking unsuspecting drunks to contribute to the 'honeymoon', or 'wedding', or whatever.

Thats right folks, these girls would go out every night to a different bar and scam the crowd into paying their drinks and contributing money to the bucket. Complete with sash and veil, the girls would alternate who would be the 'bride' depending on the night and where they went, so as not to be too conspicuous.

They had a decent amount of cash in the bucket.

You've been warned.
